CalmNews ("we", "our", "the app") is an audio news briefing application. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Account Information: When you create an account, we store your display name, email address, and your preferred settings (language, topics, news mode, briefing duration). This data is stored securely in Google Firebase.
Usage Data: We collect anonymous usage analytics through Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used and to improve our service. This may include session duration, features used, and crash reports.
Audio Generation: Your selected news preferences are sent to our servers to generate personalized audio briefings. The generated audio files are temporarily stored in Firebase Storage and are associated with your account.
We do not collect your location data, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any data unrelated to the news briefing service. We do not sell, share, or trade your personal data with third parties for advertising purposes.
Google Firebase: For authentication, data storage, and analytics. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by Firebase.
ElevenLabs: For text-to-speech audio generation. Your news briefing text is sent to ElevenLabs' API to generate audio. ElevenLabs does not store or use this data beyond generating the requested audio.
Google Gemini AI: For generating news briefing scripts from aggregated news articles. No personal data is sent to Gemini — only news article summaries and your language/topic preferences.
The Guardian API and NewsData.io: For fetching current news articles. No personal data is shared with these services.
RevenueCat: For managing subscriptions. RevenueCat processes your subscription status but does not have access to your payment details, which are handled entirely by Apple.
CalmNews offers subscription plans managed through Apple's App Store. All payments are processed by Apple. We do not have access to your credit card or payment information. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings.
Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. Audio files are temporary and may be overwritten with each new briefing. If you delete your account, all associated data will be removed from our servers within 30 days.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You can update your preferences within the app's settings page. To request data deletion, please contact us at the email below.
CalmNews is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
